This is the first course on power to be focussed on the Middle East & North Africa and has been produced following extensive research with key players in the region. The course will provide participants with a comprehensive overview of the power industry in the region and will address the opportunities and challenges that exist.

World Fiscal Systems for Oil and Gas is a five-day computer-based interactive training course. It is based on a work book with examples and exercises. Participants will receive, free of charge, the petroleum fiscal software used during the course. This provides a "starter-kit" to solve fiscal issues after completing the course.

This training course provides participants with a comprehensive overview of the oil & gas law issues involved in the global energy business.

By attending this course participants will:

• Gain knowledge of petroleum law frameworks and how they can foster oil and gas activity
• Review petroleum contract structures that hose governments and oil companies use to grant petroleum rights and govern petroleum activities
• Analyse key petroleum agreements relating to exploration, development and marketing of oil and gas
• Participate in a unique simulation exercise that will put in practice the knowledge gained over the week

The presenters will use a lecture format for this training course, but interaction, questions and discussion will be encouraged. While the intention is to provide an understanding of the legal systems that govern world oil & gas activities, specific examples from various countries will be used to demonstrate relevant provisions and issues. Also attendees will receive a comprehensive set of the seminar notes that will include sample laws, host government agreements, joint development agreements and other documents that will be the subject of review and discussion during the seminar.

Abstract

Dr. Michael Webber, a noted public speaker and researcher on energy technology and policy, will share entertaining insights and refreshingly candid views about the best and worst of U.S. energy policy, including brief snippets of its history, real-world examples, outlook going forward, and global implications. These energetic and interactive lectures will cover the nexus of energy technology and policy with examples, findings from recent research, and projections into the future. Particular emphasis will be given to the role of Texas as a leader (and laggard) in U.S. and world energy policy. While attendees will gain an overview of the technical and engineering fundamentals of energy, including the benefits and impacts of different fuels and the capabilities of different technologies, they will also gain insights into the role of energy in the economy, international affairs and American culture.
